I stumbled across this in my archives a few minutes ago and thought you would find it interesting. At the time 8/99, I was a close advisor to Quayle who had called to ask for my support. Note Quayle identifying monetary deflation as the problem.

PS   I just read your 2003 speech on inflation targeting and sent it to Mundell. I'm going to look at it again and send you comments. I'm gratified to see how much common ground we have and I think Mundell will too.
