Estate Taxes

Karen Kerrigan adds to our sense that the 107th Congress will reduce estate taxes, as politicians in both parties are pushed in that direction by their constituents. She notes one of the first things that Georgia Democrat Zell Miller did upon being appointed to the Senate after the death of Republican Paul Coverdell was to co-sponsor the Kyl-Kerry death tax repeal bill.

Karen also notes two states voted on election day to repeal their state's inheritance taxes: South Dakota (home state of Senate Minority leader Tom Daschle) by a vote of 80 percent to 20 percent; and Montana by a vote of 68 percent to 32 percent.
